Stella Dawson

Through January 2021, Stella Dawson led CGAP's communications and information technology team. She was responsible for the overall communications strategy, editing, and publishing CGAP knowledge products and managing its knowledge-sharing platforms CGAP.org and FinDev Gateway.

Before joining CGAP in 2016, Stella worked as a financial journalist for 28 years. She was global editor for economics and markets at Reuters, winning awards for her reporting on the European Central Bank when she was based in Frankfurt and for local reporting in Virginia. At the Thomson Reuters Foundation and 100Reporters, she led a network of reporters around the world to cover corruption issues, uncovering stories that led to legislative change and court action. She has consulted on media and communications strategy for the Group of Thirty, the International Finance Corporation, and the Open Government Partnership. She was a frequent commentator on economics and international development issues for BBC, CNBC, C-SPAN, and public radio.

Stella has a Master’s degree in Public Affairs and Communications from American University, Washington, D.C., and a Bachelor’s degree (Honors) in Politics from the University of Durham, England.
