Congratulations to Qayssar Alwarda of Iraq on being the first ever People’s Choice winner. The winning photo, “The Book Suffers,” (left) portrays a bookseller in one of Baghdad’s largest markets and received over 400 votes. This year, we introduced the new People’s Choice prize for the photo that received the most votes in the Contest gallery.
The 2012 CGAP Photo Contest closed for entries on September 10th with 2,500 submissions from 80 countries around the world. All the winners and finalists from this year’s Contest will be announced in October after the formal judging takes place. Winners receive considerable exposure and become part of a global community of photographers who share a twin passion for photography and advancing financial access for the world’s poor.
