Central Africa Policy Forum

Policy Issues in SSA Region

Central Africa Policy Forum, Yaoundé, Cameroon

March 18, 2008

Over the course of two and a half days in March, regional leaders from ten countries in Sub-Saharan Africa – Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Madagascar and Rwanda – gathered in Yaoundé, Cameroon to discuss how policy measures can help improve access to financial services for low-income people in the region.

Covering issues such as the regulation and supervision of cooperatives, how to reduce the costs of financial services, options for new banking technologies to reach unbanked people, and how to ensure that poor people’s money is protected while offering increased access to services, the forum brought together central bank governors, ministers of finance and other high level officials from across the region.

The Central Africa Policy Forum was organized by CGAP in partnership with the BEAC/COBAC, the European Union, MAE/France, AFD, the FIRST Initiative, the United Nations Advisors Group on Inclusive Financial Sectors (UNAG), and Making Finance Work for Africa (MFW4A).
