How We Work
CGAP’s Government and Policy Team carries out its short-term advisory activity using the five following general types of policy advisory instruments (whether separately, in combination or in sequence, depending on the particular country or region):
- Country Level Diagnostic Mapping to identify policy constraints and reform opportunities
- Country Specific and Regional Consultations and Awareness Building and/or Training activities with high level financial sector policymakers and regulators, as well as other political decision makers and influential interest groups,
- Commentary on, and Technical Input into, Draft Reform proposals with a significant potential policy impact on microfinance (including “rapid response” engagements),
- Research and Policy Analysis that contributes to the development or identification of sound practice standards, principles and trade-offs for the industry, as well as tools incorporating the research and policy analysis results, and
- Dissemination of policy best practice standards and principles at conferences and similar events.
