Working at CGAP
Working at CGAP means an opportunity to learn about new trends and developments that affect access to finance, and to engage directly with the financial institutions, funding organizations, government policymakers and regulators, and other actors – including low-income clients themselves – who are concerned about building inclusive financial systems. It is also an opportunity to interact and explore synergies with a broad range of development organizations that are focused on alleviating the many dimensions of poverty. CGAP’s work is implemented by the Operational Team, in collaboration with a wide network of partners across the world. The Operational Team is headed by our Executive Director and CEO and governed by our Executive Committee – all leading experts whose work has helped shape the direction of the microfinance industry.
What is it like to work at CGAP? On any given day, the Operational Team
- Works with and provides advisory services to financial institutions, funding organizations, governments, and other service providers
- Conducts field-based and desk research
- Engages with civil society, such as non-profit organizations, think tanks, the media, and the public at large, to raise awareness about access to finance issues
- Develops technical guides to help industry practitioners in their work
- Implements grant programs for innovative approaches
- Monitors projects
- Collects, analyzes, and disseminates microfinance industry data
- Writes and publishes papers, briefs, and opinion pieces
- Organizes learning events such as training, workshops, and conferences
Beyond microfinance, CGAP’s activities span many professional disciplines, including social sciences, banking and finance, business, law, information technology, accounting, media relations, marketing, project management, research, writing, and more. To learn more about the different backgrounds and skills involved in our work. The Operational Team represents more than 16 nationalities and currently consists of 45 staff and numerous external consultants. It is headquartered in Washington, D.C.,with a representative office in Paris, France. In addition, CGAP is also affiliated with regional partners in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Francophone Africa, and the Middle East and North Africa.
