CGAP Translations Policy

As part of our mission to advance microfinance throughout the developing world, CGAP is committed to translating and disseminating our publications as widely as possible. Our publications are normally written in English, and we routinely translate into six other languages (French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Chinese and Portuguese), with a priority on French and Spanish.

All translated publications are available online. Print copies in English, French and Spanish are widely distributed, and are also available on request.

We are committed to the highest standards of translation. All CGAP publications are translated by highly qualified translators, and are reviewed by native-speaking microfinance experts. This commitment to quality sometimes means there is a delay of some weeks before a translation is available. We try to prioritize those publications based on anticipated demand in particular regions and languages. If you are looking for a particular publication in a language not yet available online, please let us know so that we can make it a higher priority. To control costs, we are not translating some older publications that have been superseded by newer ones.

CGAP is committed to creating standards in microfinance, and this applies to our translations policy as much as other areas of our work. We work with partners throughout the world to maintain glossaries of specialist microfinance terms in all the languages we use. These glossaries are published online. Again, we welcome your feedback on the terminology. We plan to develop this project further online.
