The High Level Meeting – Leveraging Our Comparative Advantage to
Improve Aid Effectiveness – held on February 13, 2004, reflected
the findings and recommendations generated by the Microfinance
Donor Peer Reviews.
Launched by Ministers and heads of agencies and the Consultative
Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), the reviews addressed aid effectiveness in
a unique way. The reviews have compelled 17
development agencies to look at
themselves in the mirror, through the eyes of their peers. Building on this
exercise, agencies affirmed their continued commitment to improving aid effectiveness
overall, and specifically in microfinance.
The theme of the meeting underlines the importance for each
individual agency to identify its strengths and challenges in microfinance,
act on its specific comparative advantage, and collaborate with others to leverage
each others’ strengths. The involvement of top leaders from the participating
agencies assures accountability for improved aid effectiveness, as illustrated
in the Joint Memorandum.
