Welcome to the Product Costing Resource Center, the new resource for innovation and exchange about product costing in microfinance.

Costing is a powerful tool that helps microfinance managers discover the true cost of products. Better management information on products help managers make key decisions about product design, delivery mechanisms, and pricing. A costing exercise can also raise awareness of the cost components of different products, reveal hidden costs, instill cost-consciousness in staff, and uncover excess capacity and other operational problems.

This website aims to facilitate the detailed cost analysis of microfinance products by providing CGAP’s product costing tool and companion software (ABC) for activity-based costing. The results achieved by several microfinance institutions that have already tested the tool are also available, along with training material based on this tool.
