With 15 million adults and just 4.5 million bank accounts, a majority of people in Ghana do not have access to formal financial services—although the ratio of banked-to-unbanked adults is higher than average for sub-Saharan Africa.Ghana is a promising market that should be ripe for branchless banking, but it has not grown as expected. CGAP believes there is potential for branchless banking to grow in Ghana and looks forward to engaging the market and helping its progression.
