Since 2024, Martina Wiedmaier-Pfister leads CGAP’s work on inclusive insurance regulation and supervision in its inclusive insurance project.  She has more than 30 years of experience in advising central banks, national ministries, insurance authorities and international development cooperation agencies on inclusive finance and insurance issues. 

Martina worked over 20 years as a free-lancer for German International Cooperation, among others for the Access to Insurance Initiative), UN agencies and development banks. Prior to that, she was a long-term employee of GIZ advising central banks, government agencies and microfinance providers in three Asian countries and as team leader in Bolivia. She spent the first 10 years of her career in two German co-operative banks.

Martina integrates cross-cutting issues such as country diagnostics, proportionate regulation and supervision and enabling policy approaches for inclusive insurance. This also includes gender mainstreaming. She is the author of numerous studies and tools in inclusive insurance regulation and supervision, and has been instrumental in advancing the frontiers of knowledge in this field. 

Martina graduated from Pforzheim University with a degree in business administration, specializing in Marketing and International trade. She is based in Germany and speaks English and Spanish.
