Regina Simões has been A2ii Regional Coordinator for Latin America since 2017. Prior to joining A2ii, Regina worked for over 20 years as an insurance supervisor at the Superintendência de Seguros Privados (SUSEP), Brazil's insurance authority, with a proven track record in insurance regulation, product development, and international collaboration.
Since 2006, she has been engaged with financial inclusion and inclusive insurance, being member of relevant working groups, such as: IAIS-CGAP Joint Working Group on Microinsurance (acting chair, 2008-2012); IAIS Financial Inclusion Working Group (2006-2012); Brazilian Multilateral Consultative Commission on Microinsurance (2008-2012); SUSEP Microinsurance Working Group, which established the first set of microinsurance rules in Brazil (2011-2012); Financial Inclusion Subcommittee of the Financial Markets Regulation and Supervision Commission – COREMEC (2012-2013); Working Group for the regulation of retail channels and insurance representatives (chair, 2013), and the GPFI/G20, under the Brazilian Presidency (A2ii Official Delegate, 2024).
As SUSEP's International Relations Coordinator, she acted as a representative to international partners and associations; was a member of the Brazilian Delegation at the Financial Services Group Meetings in the World Trade Organization (WTO); and Coordinator of Brazilian Delegation in the Insurance Commission and the Solvency Margin Sub-commission / SGT-4 / Financial Issues / MERCOSUR.
Regina holds a degree in Architecture from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), an MBA in Finance from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV), and a postgraduate degree in Planning Engineering from COPPE/UFRJ – IDEAS. She is based in Rio de Janeiro and speaks Spanish, Portuguese (native) and English.
