Teresa Pelanda

Consultant

Teresa Pelanda is a consultant with the Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), convened by CGAP, where she is responsible for running the Inclusive Insurance Innovation Lab (iii-lab) and supporting activities for the adoption of the A2ii Cape Town Declaration – a voluntary commitment by insurance supervisors to work collaboratively to strengthen access to and usage of insurance.

She has been working with A2ii, hosted by GIZ, the German Development Cooperation, since 2014 and brings over a decade of experience in inclusive insurance regulation and supervision, stakeholder engagement, and in designing and facilitating peer learning and exchange formats for insurance supervisors.

Since 2020, Teresa has been the project manager for three rounds of iii-labs – a year-long process that supports public and private sector actors from different countries in developing innovative solutions to improve access to insurance and increase resilience against external shocks.

Before that, Teresa worked as a consultant on inclusive insurance in Latin America and was seconded to the Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP in Peru for three months in 2016, where she supported the review and adaptation of the existing microinsurance regulation.

She holds a Master’s degree in Regional Studies of Latin America from the University of Cologne, Germany, and the Universidad de Guadalajara, Mexico. She speaks German, English, and Spanish and is based in Frankfurt, Germany.
