A2ii Invites Insurance Supervisors to Apply for 5th Inclusive Insurance Innovation Lab
WASHINGTON, D.C., September 18, 2025 – The Access to Insurance Initiative (A2ii), convened by CGAP, invites insurance supervisors to apply for the 5th Inclusive Insurance Innovation Lab (iii-lab)—a year-long, hands-on collaboration between key stakeholders to support the development of inclusive insurance markets. The 5th iii-lab focuses on designing innovative insurance solutions that help vulnerable populations better manage health risks.
About 14 percent of the global population experience financial hardship due to out of-pocket health spending. Public insurance often misses the informal sector, especially women, while private options are scarce. Community schemes, though useful, are limited in reach and sustainability.
The 5th iii-lab tackles this protection gap by convening multistakeholder country teams to co-create innovative solutions, from insurance products to new distribution channels. Based on a social lab approach, the iii-lab uses Design Thinking methods—including human-centered user research, rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration—to develop and field-test innovations in-country.
The iii-lab will take place in two selected countries from January to December 2026, and participants are expected to engage actively by attending meetings and workshops, both virtually and in-person. While participation in the iii-lab is free, country teams are responsible for hosting and covering the costs of in-country meetings. Participants must cover their own flight and accommodation costs for the in-person international workshop.
Supervisors and their teams selected to join the 5th iii-lab will receive guidance from an experienced facilitator and insights on how to build alliances and collective capacity to lead multi-stakeholder, cross-sectorial teams. The iii-lab seeks to enhance the skills of selected supervisors by sharing knowledge about commercial and community-based health insurance solutions through peer-exchange with the other country team and international experts.
Applications and supporting documents must be sent to a2ii@cgap.org before 31 October 2025. Details are available here.
