Julia Abakaeva is currently part of the Corporate and Partnerships Teams, acting as a liaison for the G-20’s Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI), where CGAP is one of Implementing Partners. She joined CGAP’s Retail Advisory Service program in 2005, later contributing to the Technology Program and coordinating the Harnessing Innovation for Financial Inclusion Program (HiFi).

Julia has over 20 years of development and financial inclusion experience. Before joining CGAP, Julia was a consultant at the Internationale Projekt Consult GmbH. There, she collaborated with MFIs and greenfield banks, providing high-quality solutions and capacity building in the areas of development finance, microfinance, and SME finance. 

Julia holds a master’s degree in finance and management from Clark University.

Are Deposits a Stable Source of Funding for Microfinance Institutions?

New research finds that under normal circumstances, aggregate balances for low-income accounts move gradually, and they are not prone to abrupt month-by-month swings.
