Faced with this challenge, Gateway Academy’s strategy demanded an innovative approach; working with a consortium of partners to plan, design, and build and run the digital learning marketplace. In this webinar,  speakers from CGAP, Bivee, and Humentum discussed how they created a shared culture when building Gateway Academy.

Speaker Bios

Thom Sinclair
Thom Sinclair | CGAP, Gateway Academy
Thom Sinclair leads CGAP's Gateway Academy, a MasterCard Foundation initiative aimed at building capacity for inclusive financial service providers in Sub-Saharan Africa. Before joining CGAP, Thom was a Senior Knowledge Management and Learning Advisor and the Program Cycle Capacity Building Team Lead with USAID’s Policy, Planning and Learning Bureau. Thom has an MPA from Rutgers in International Public Service and Development and an MA in Political Science from Georgia State University.
Chris Proulx
Chris Proulx | Humentum
As global director for learning and product development at Humentum, Chris Proulx is responsible for developing and executing the organization’s strategy for maximizing the reach, effectiveness, and impact of its learning and certification products and services—making learning resources for operational excellence as accessible as possible. He co-led the merger process that resulted in Humentum being founded in July 2017 to bring three successful organizations (formerly InsideNGO, Mango, and LINGOs) together. Prior to joining LINGOs, Chris spent over twenty years working at the intersection of learning and technology, including most recently serving as CEO of eCornell for ten years.
Scott Schafter
Scott Schafter | Bivee
Scott is a Managing Director of Bivee and has helped build the strategy that Bivee has taken to collaborate with a wide array of clients. At Bivee, he has focused on online learning and collaboration tool development in an international context - specifically with USAID, UNICEF, and the World Bank. He has led projects that include the development of the PPP Knowledge Lab, a strategy for managing development data, and an engagement strategy for GPOBA. He has developed eLearning systems that have scaled to over 60 countries and won an award for Global eLearning from the CLO magazine.
Penina Lam
Penina Lam, Ph.D. [Moderator]
Penina Lam is a consultant at CGAP. Her expertise lies in Organizational Development (OD), and knowledge management. Penina is the founder of eLearning Innovators, a leading provider of digital learning design, learning events, and soft-skills training solutions. She helps organizations to design, develop, and deliver customized professional development interventions. She has held senior leadership roles in corporate and academic settings guiding organizations seeking to start, scale, and sustain learning and performance improvement initiatives. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership & OD from the University of Louisville, USA.
