Lilian Tan
Lilian Tan is a Senior Program Officer and leads the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s work to increase, deepen, and improve the quality of women’s access to and usage of digital financial services. She works in BMGF’s Inclusive Financial Systems team, which aims to expand access to digital financial services so that the poorest people around the globe can build security and prosperity for themselves, their families, and their communities. She supports the Foundation’s goal that through greater financial inclusion, women strengthen their economic power.
Before joining the Foundation, Lilian worked at the intersection of gender equality and financial inclusion. She served as a senior leader for a global nonprofit focused on women and the complex, interconnected issues affecting their rights and livelihoods, and prior to that, lived and worked in East Africa for a technology company working to deliver affordable, productive assets to rural and low-income households. Lilian also spent several years consulting for nonprofits and foundations by helping them refine their organizational strategy, programmatic strategy, and operations.
Lilian holds a Bachelor of Arts from The University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Business Administration from New York University.
