Henri Dommel of UNCDF Named New Chair of CGAP’s Executive Committee

CGAP also welcomed Buhle Goslar as an at-large committee member

São Paulo, Brazil—June 2, 2023: Henri Dommel from United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) was named as the new chair of CGAP’s Executive Committee at its annual Council of Governor's meeting today.

Effective July 1st, Dommel will succeed Juliet Anammah, former Group Chief Sustainability Officer at Jumia, Africa’s first tech start-up to be listed on the NYSE, and former CEO of Jumia Nigeria. Under Anammah’s leadership, CGAP adopted its new five-year strategy, which envisions responsible and inclusive financial ecosystems that enable a green, resilient, and equitable world.

At UNCDF, Dommel is Director of Financial Inclusion Practice Area, where he is responsible for leading the Practice's strategy in digital finance and the promotion of inclusive digital economies. He has served on CGAP’s Executive Committee, which functions as CGAP’s advisory board, since 2020.

“I am looking forward to deepening my engagement with CGAP and working alongside the rest of the Executive Committee to help the operational team contribute to responsible and inclusive financial ecosystems that enable a green, resilient, and equitable world,” said Dommel.

Dommel’s leadership will prove invaluable in advancing CGAP’s new strategy (“CGAP VII”), according to CGAP CEO Sophie Sirtaine. “CGAP VII recognizes that the world is changing rapidly, and with it come both new vulnerabilities but also new opportunities for inclusive finance to make a positive impact. We are thankful for Juliet’s contributions over the past year and are looking forward to Henri’s leadership, particularly in leveraging digital economies and responsible digital finance to drive progress at scale,” she said.

In addition, Buhle Goslar, CEO for Africa Region and Pakistan at JUMO, has also joined the Executive Committee as an at-large member. At-large members are selected for their technical expertise, deep knowledge of financial inclusion in Africa, recognized leadership, and passion for women economic empowerment and leadership.

The 10-member Executive Committee, chaired by Dommel, will play a crucial role in providing strategic guidance to CGAP’s operational team in implementing CGAP’s new five-year strategy, which will take effect from July 2023 through June 2028.
